The pickiness of what my girls want to wear started way sooner than I could have ever imagined.
I had this vision of getting to help dress my kids well into elementary school. Whelp. Age 3 was about when my first born wore a gymnastics leotard for a week straight. She even rocked that thing at Thanksgiving dinner.
At age 2 my second daughter became obsessed with the color purple and mermaids. And after a fight or two about why wearing a mermaid dress to school in 0 degree weather was not the best idea, I decided we needed to try something different.
We both needed to win.
Now I dress my kids in their merino wool base layers first. Then I let them dress themselves up in whatever way feels right to them. Add a skirt. Throw a dress over it. Put a tee shirt on with a mermaid over the long sleeve. It is a win win.
The merino is doing its work next to their skin and they still get to be kids, make their own decisions and well, swim like a mermaid.
So my advice as a mom of three girls: let them. Let them add the character to the outfit. Let them pick out their own merino colors. Find fun ways to include it. A headband, a sticker on their hand, character shoes or boots. Get creative.
Happy adventures,Â
